Long description
Carved wooden mask. The inside of the mask is mostly unpainted, although some parts are roughly painted black. The outside of the mask is painted all over with brightly coloured ?gloss paint. The main background of the face of the mask is painted black. The area around the eyes and over the bridge of the nose is painted pink. The eyes are painted black and white. The nose is painted red, as are the inside of the lips and the ears. The teeth are marked in white paint and the tongue is painted pink. The top of the head is shaped into a peak with a band behind it. The peak is decorated with yellow, turquoise and white paint and the band with pink, green and white. The wood has been cut out under the eyes and inside the mouth and between the head peak and band. The mask has been made from one piece of wood. The inside bottom edge of the mask appears to have signs of damage prior to accession. Apart from this damage the mask shows no signs of wear and does not appear to have any means of being attached.
