Long description
Ornament, made from cowrie shells and red strips of plant fibre attached to a knotted plant fibre base. The ornament is tied using plaited plant fibre ties, which end in purple tassels. Dr. Hughes describes this as one of four modern Gilbertese dance bands and garlands. [CW 20 4 98]
