Description
Part of a complete woman's dance costume: Woven pandanus leaf bra-shaped top lined with green cotton. [JP 18/6/2004]
Long description
The top is woven from undyed pandanas leaves and is lined on the back with with bright green cotton. It is made in several sections machine stitched together with black cotton. Two triangular shaped and pointed cups to cover the breasts are plain woven from strips of pandanus leaf approximately 6 mm wide. The sides are trimmed with a band of woven pandanus leaf 25 mm with a zigzag 'shark's tooth pattern' edge. The bottom edge of the two bra cups are stitched onto a band 72 mm wide and 683 mm long which is composed of three overlapping 40 mm wide bands of woven pandanus with zigzag edges. At either side of this band are two green cotton ties for securing the top to the body. There are also two straps, again of woven pandanus with zigzag edging, each of which extends from the top of one of the bra cups to one side of the band. [JP 18/6/2004]
