Long description
Fan painted with scenes from Burmese life and myth, in gold, vermillion and green paint on a white textile ground. The fan is attached to wooden ends which act as a cover. These wooden covers have been carved by hand or possibly machine cut. Each double fold of the fan is attached at the base to a short wooden slat. possibly by glue. There are fourteen wooden slats in total. The top edge of the white textile fan has been painted with a gold border. Through the bottom of the fan a metal pin or nail has been passed which acts as a pivot, allowing the fan to be opened and closed. There is a metal loop attached to this pin from which the fn may be suspended. The metal pin is buffered from the wood by a white ?plastic or ?ivory mount. [LKG 04/09/2009]
