- Long description
- One of a pair of leather leggings decorated with beading, part of man's Northern Plains style outfit. The legging is made from one piece of soft, brown leather which has been folded and sewn up along one edge with clear, synthetic thread. The top section is wider and has not been sewn at the edge, but instead is open and fringed. the bottom edge is also fringed. There is a vertical band of beading down one side. This is on a separate length of cotton cloth which has been applied to the legging, and comprises dark blue diamond and triangle designs and small green squares on a white background. The outer edge of the band is decorated with a fringe of twisted cotton. The sewn edge of the legging is also decorated with tufts of black hair, bound at the bottom with straw dyed red. The lower two thirds of the legging are decorated with six painted green and black bands. There are two leather strips threaded through perforations in the top of the legging. This is the left leg.
