Long description
Rectangular wooden shield, covered with cane and painted on the front. The shield is bent convexly from top to bottom. The edges of the shield are decorated with white ?clay. The central section of the front of the shield is painted with white and pink ?clay and decorated with two plant fibre crosses where the grip is attached at the back. The back of the shield has horizontal wooden slats bound with strips of ?cane. The two pieces of wood either side of the centre are covered in twill woven ?cane. The handle is bound with cane/plant fibre. [MJD 28/07/2010]
