Information from Penny Dransart on .633 (DOC): 'Small work basket constructed from three sticks bent into a U shape and lashed together at the base. The walls were formed by wrapped strands of white camelid fibre yarn, held in place by bands of weft twining in dyed camelid fibre yarn. The basket contains seven hanks of white camelid fibre yarn some of which are daubed in red paint, an incised bird bone and a stone spindle whorl.'
Arica is in northern Chile's Arica and Parinacota Region, located only 18 km (11 mi) south of the border with Peru. It was originally a part of Peru but it was lost after a plebiscite arranged in the Treaty of Ancon in 1883 as part of the results of the war of the Pacific. It is therefore to be considered part of Chile not Peru. [AS 14/12/2010]
