- Long description
- Model outrigger canoe and float in 13 pieces [.1-.13]. The canoe [.1] has part of the outrigger frame attached and is decorated with carved designs and white and black pigment. One side [.2] has become detached. [.3 and .4] are carved and painted canoe prows with cowrie shells tied on each with plant fibre string. [.5 and .6] are a piece of carved and painted wood that has broken into two pieces. [.6] has a piece of plant leaf threaded through one of the holes. [.7-.10] are pieces of the outrigger frame and all are bound with lengths of plant fibre or plant fibre string. [.11] is a piece of plant fibre and [.12] is a piece of plant leaf, possibly part of [.6]. The float [.13] is carved at both ends and coloured with white pigment. Several holes have been made along the top into which short palm wood sticks have been inserted [SM (Verve) 18/03/2013]
