Sheath for dagger 1989.25.1 .1. [MdeA 26/1/2016]
Long description
Leather and reptile skin sheath [.2] carrying loop. The sheath is made of leather and bound with crocodile or reptile skin on the lower half and at the mouth. This is stitched together with string. The upper half is decorated with tooled, stamped and incised designs. At the mouth of the sheath is an arm ring of twisted leather that is attached to the back of the sheath. [SM 13/06/2007]

Research and responses

Said to have been found between Marlborough and Pewsey [?LMM 1989 10]. By comparison with other specimens in the collection, e.g. 1954.5.122 and Gunn 1903, this specimen would appear to be from the Sudan [?LMM 1989 10].
