Long description
Amulet, reliquary pendant carved from an apricot stone, containing 'Agnus Dei' and a saint's relic, with a glass front and perforated for suspension. There appears to be a ?plaster figure of the ?Virgin Mary in the centre of the reliquary, however the figure is broken. The relics are to either side of the figure. To the left there is a strip of paper which reads 'Angus' placed over the top of a ?wax relic. To the right there is a strip of paper which reads 'Severian' [St. Severian] placed over the top of a relic. The relics are mounted on a gold coloured background, and there is a strip of black cotton textile around the edge of the glass front. The apricot stone had been carved and incised with 'IHS' [Iesus Hominum Salvator] on the reverse. [RB 23/04/2012]
