Information given by Professor Itaru Chijiwa, Assistant Professor Seiji Hoshino (both from Kokugakuin University) and Norifumi Shimazu (Association of Shinto Shrines) during a research visit, November 2009. Korean is written between the columns of red text and spaced out large Japanese text on the right. [El.B 20/01/2010]
The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2010 as: Handwritten document in Chinese, Korean and Japanese katakana. Japanese part reads: That fan is from my country. It is for a lady. Lady’s fans are normally white. In my country, when parents die, their children wear white clothes for 3 years.
