This object was examined along with others from the Chamberlain Collection by Sekiko Matsuzaki-Petitmengin on 27 June 2003 [SM 16/10/2008]
The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2012 as: “Ogane ryau eingi”, Brief history of the big bell. *Handwritten note, ‘Bell in Kamakura’ is possibly by Lafcadio Hearn. This relates the history of the bell in Engaku-ji [MJD 16/10/2012]
