Long description
Clay incense burner painted with red and green patterns. The incense burner is made from clay. The burner has a round base, round body and conical top. A handle is attached from the base of the burner to the body. The handle has been painted with green and red vertical and horizontal lines. Three triangular holes have been cut into the base of the burner and outlined in red paint. Green triangles and red and green painted lines decorate the base of the burner. Between the base and the body of the burner a further four triangular holes have been cut and outlined in red and green paint alternatively. The body of the burner has been decorated with four sets of three triangular holes intercepted with incised diagonal and vertical lines painted over in green and red. This pattern is separated from the top half of the burner with two horizontal lines painted in red and green. Around the centre of the burner is a zig-zag edging which has been painted with alternate red and green painted triangles. A semicircle has been cut out of one side of the top half of the burner and two triangles on the opposite side. Diagonal, vertical and horizontal lines decorate the top half of the burner and have been painted with red and green paint. The very top of the burner is pointed with two rows of four triangular holes edged with red and green paint and two rows of zig-zag edging. [FC 02/11/2009]
