- Saddle Rug. [FC 08/10/2009]
- Long description
- Saddle Rug. The rug is probably made from wool and has been hand knotted. This appears to be half of a saddle rug, the other half is accessioned as 2008.85.2. The design on the rug consists of brightly coloured flowers. The rug has a blue boarder on the outside edge, followed by a red boarder decorated with a yellow zig-zag line. In the centre on a yellow background from left to right is a floral arrangement of four stems with coloured leaves attached in the bottom left hand corner of the design. At the bottom centre is a stem with three flowers attached, one pink flower, one orange bud and one open flower with a red and blue stamen and green and red petals. On the right hand side of the design there is one large open flower with six pink petals and a yellow stamen with red centre with two green dots and two orange dots. To the right of the large open flower is an arrangement of four floral shapes in orange, black, pink and maroon. At the top of the rug two geometric lines in green and red run across the rug and the area above these lines in pink. Along the bottom of the rug the design consists of a number of semicircular stripes of colour. The bottom edge of the rug has beige fringing, where the warp threads of the weave of the rug have been left long. [FC 08/10/2009]
