Description
Head ornament of a long red feather with more elaborate ornament attached to the tip. [El.B 04/12/2008]
Long description
The ornament is attached to the tip of the feather with a string threaded through a black monkey tail. Suspended from the string is a gourd triangle decorated with blue feathers. From the bottom corners of the triangle rings are suspended with string, hung with beetle elytra. One of the rings is bound with red and white yarn and decorated with red and blue beads. This object was examined by Peter Rivière in January 2009. He noted that this head ornament is worn in an arch with the beetle wings weighing the feathers down. The beads are imported and probably Czech. The fur is possible Spider Monkey [SM 12/01/2009]
