- Ceremonial pewter tankard with dated inscription [for box see 2006.78.2 .2]. [SM 1/4/2008]
- Long description
- Ceremonial pewter tankard given to donor to commemorate the 'topping out' of the Pitt Rivers Museum extension for research, display and education. The base of the tankard has been stamped with the maker's mark and an inscription. The front of the tankard has been inscribed with 'Presented by Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd to Dr John Hood Vice Chancellor Oxford University on the occasion of the "Topping Out" Pitt Rivers Museum 9th February 2006.' The tankard was used during the Topping Out ceremony to drink beer from. [MdeA 21/08/2006]
