In the Knowles papers there is correspondence between Alfred Barnes and Francis Knowles (both of whom knew Herbert Noone). In a letter dated 14 May 1943 Barnes wrote "I am asking him [Noone] to get some [Aborigine] cores and flakes for the PR". (Knowles papers box 2 bundle IIIE 14 May 1943 page 3) It may be these items were collected by Noone in response to this request from Barnes (who he had been staying with when the letter was written).
