Description
Ornate silver pectoral cross, hinged, with a ring for suspension. [JP 10/3/2004]
Long description
Square centre with a small diamond shaped projection on each side forming the arms of the cross. One of the diamond-shaped arms is cut short by a hinge attached to which is an ornate crown-shaped piece of metal with three rounded peaks on top of which is the suspension ring. The whole cross is decorated with filligree work. On each corner of the diamond-shaped arms and the square centre are soldered tiny trefoils. Small flat silver rounds are soldered onto the square centre, and onto the centres of the four arms and hinged attachment. The back of the cross is undecorated. At the time of accessioning the hinged attachment and the main body of the cross were being held together with metal wire. [JP 10/3/2004]
