Long description
Round coiled palm leaf basket. The base is lined with leather stitched into the basketry. The exterior is wrapped with thin strips of leather strategically threaded under the palm fronds to make a diamond pattern. There is also a single strip of leather woven into the rim of the basket and a small coiled leather handle. The leather on the bottom of the vessel has holes punctured in it, possibly to allow the contents of the basket to be aired or to give off scent. The rim of the basket slots into a groove between the rim and an extra circle of coils on the underside of the lid. The inside of the pot is not decorated and the coiled basketry can be seen clearly.
