Wooden tobacco box with pine and ivory lacquered design, a snake emerging from the circular lid, which is attached by a cord to an ivory skull [ZM 09/02/2015]
Long description
Lacquered wooden tobacco box [.1] with circular lid [.2] attached by a cord to an ivory skull [.3] and a netsuke of a man's head [1980.34.1994]. The box is decorated with lacquered pine and ivy and a snake is emerging from the lid. The underneath of the box is irregularly shaped in the form of roots and there is a magnolia flower in silver and gilt. [ZM 30/7/2004]
