Long description
Hide shield decorated with shield shaped and semicircular patterns. The shield is oval in shape and made from animal hide. The shape of the shield is made with a wooden frame wrapped in lengths of animal hide. There is a carved wooden handle in the centre of the shield made from a length of wood that has been secured from one end of the shield to the other with lengths of animal hide through perforations in the main body of the shield. The curved shape of the shield has been reinforced with lengths of hide secured tightly from one end of the central wooden support to the handle and from the handle to the other end of the central wooden support. The front of the shield has been painted with white paint with black semicircular pattern and two shield shaped patterns painted in red with a white line down the centre. The painted surface is dirty, cracked and scratched in areas. [FC 27/07/2010]
