Research and responses

This object was examined by Dr Yannis Galanakis and Stella Skaltsa during the Fell funded project Characterizing the World Archaeology Collections. They described this vessel as a kylix, a vessel related to the storage of oils or cosmetics. They dated it to the sixth century BC. [AS 06/01/2011]

Apparently listed as number 126 in the list of 'The Leafless Group' of 'Late Cups' on page 641 of Attic Black-Figure Vase Painters, by J. D. Beazley (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1956): '126. Oxford, Pitt-Rivers Museum, 2220. I, fawn. A. winged donkey, and satyrs; B, the like. Under each handle, a dolphin. Cup sub-A. Leafless.'
