Research and responses

This object was examined by Professor Itaru Chijiwa during his research visit in November 2008. In his opinion, the image stuck inside the envelope is either of Nyorai Zazo or Nyorai Ritsugo. He also noted that the red stamp is the same as the one on 1908.82.74. It reads "Ichibata Yakushi" He noted that the inscription on the front says "victory army" and "o-mamori". This is an unusual combination - a prayer for war and a Nyorai. [SM 20/11/2008]

The inscription on this object was transcribed and translated by Fusa McLynn who volunteered at the Museum in 2009 as: “Shogun omamori” - Amulet for army’s victory. [SM 20/04/2009]
