The Paris Exposition Universelle of 1867 had a Japanese section in the Asiatic pavilion and a 'ferme japonais' with 'real' young Japanese women. Usually such stands contained many 'ethnographic' objects and these were usually sold after the exposition was over. [AP Leverhulme project on founding collection 1995-1998]
