Hunter [sic] to Henry Balfour dated 1 February, 1933, stating that he has sent Balfour a box of stone artifacts and could he 'please send me back specimens classified by yourself, for my future guidance.' Notes by G. R. Hunt on 'Ancient Man in the Mahadeo Hills' in which he discusses his exploration of the caves in the Mahadeo Hills, and his subsequent excavation of the cave at Dorothy Deep and Jambudip. He compares the cave paintings to those made by the 'Bushmen' and suggests that the burial he excavated could be considered the first Tardenoisian burial found in India. [GI 4/12/2001]
Guy Gunning Ratclife Hunter was excavating and field walking in the Mahadeo Hills between 1932 - 1934. In 1934 he excavated two sites Dorothy Deep and Jambudip shelter. Hunter published the results of his work in two papers; the first published in 1935 (Interim report of an excavation conducted by Dr. G. R. Hunter, by permission of the government, in a rock shelter, hereinafter called Dorothy Deep rock shelter no. 1.' Nagpur University Journal 1: 28-57) does not feature Jambudip shelter, the second (1936) being the 'Final report on the excavation in the Mahadeo hills' (Nagpur University Journal 2: 127-144) is believed to contain some references.
