- Long description
- Flag-shaped fan of plaited palm-leaf with handle lacquered in red and brown. The main part of the fan is golden brown in colour and woven from thin strips of palm leaf. This is attached to the handle by means of thicker strips bound about the handle and worked into the weave of the fan. A short part of the handle is visible at the top, this is lacquered in red. At the bottom of where the fan is bound to the handle a second glimpse of red lacquer can be seen, this with three parallel lines incised, coloured golden brown. The part of the handle which can be held is lacquered in a dark brown and ends with three incised lines around which the lacquer appears to have worn away. The last 50 mm of the handle is lacquered in red and has been turned to a achieve a scrolled decorative effect. [LKG 03/09/2009]
