Long description
Knife [.] with long single edged blade, in wooden sheath [.2] with a horn bar [.3] for passing a carrying strap through. The knife has a straight blade edge and a curved carved horn hilt with a hole running through it. It is decorated in sections with incised lines. The sheath is made from two pieces of wood which are bound together with ten brass wire bands. The chape and mouth are made from animal horn. A horn bar has become detached from the back of the sheath. Originally this was placed in a hollowed out space and bound in place with two of the brass wire bands. A carrying strap would be looped through a hole created between the bar and the sheath, however, as the wire bands are now loose and the bar has become detached. [SM 31/05/2007]
