Research and responses

This object was examined by Prof. Nick Barton as part of the Fell funded project Characterizing the World Archaeology collections. He described it as a Mousterian point. He also advised that Tabel Belat was also labelled Tabel Balah and identified with the present-day Tabelbala oasis. [AS 05/07/2011]

The dictionary definition of coup de poing, noun, plural coups de poing. Archaeology. (no longer in technical use) a Lower Palaeolithic stone hand axe, pointed or ovate in shape and having sharp cutting edges. [MJD 06/02/2014]
