Related Documents File - Letter from Michael Prynne to Beatrice Blackwood, dated 19 April [no year]: '...A curious feature is the absence of women among the figures (leaving out the Western dancers and drummer and the woman in the carriage). There are no Turkish women to appear as K's or H's wife and so on. Any display ought to include figure No 1, Karagöz and 26, Hajivad, as these characters are common to all performances. Whereas No 1 is the best Karagöz figure, the No 26, Hajivad is designed to go with a small Karagöz figure, eg. No. 18. In Numich they display the Karagöz figures against a white screen lit from behind, but, unlike the shadow show, the figures on the spectators side of the screen. This is quite effective. W is less heavy than your doubl glazed frame. ...' Also included is a short essay entitled: 'The Turkish "Karagöz" Shadow Puppet Theatre', including references, and a list of the figures in this collection. [See file for full text.] [MOB 26/11/2001]
