This object is from the site of Tell Jemmeh, excavated by Sir William Flinders Petrie in 1926/1927, which he erroneously identified with the biblical site of Gerar (Petrie 1928, Gerar). This project was was sponsored by the BSAE (British School of Archaeology in Egypt), an organisation largely run by Petrie and his wife. The context given should be read as as area EF, level 190' (e.g. 190 feet above sea level) [RTS 7/11/2003].
