Long description
Dagger [.1] with two edged blade and ?silver hilt, in a copper sheath [.2] with brass armlet and detached copper decoration [.3] The dagger blade has a rounded tip. The hilt is made from a light yellow metal, possibly silver or a type of copper alloy. The base of the hilt is square in plan and is decorated with very small stamped circles in a geometric design that resembles leaves. The hilt is narrow and rectangular in section with four projections on two sides. These projections are rectangular and flat. They are decorated with small stamped circles in a wavy line. The end of the hilt projects upwards and has a conical knob on the top. The hilt is decorated on both surfaces with stamped geometric designs. The sheath is made from copper with a ?silver or ?yellow copper alloy front that is decorated with the same geometric designs as the base of the hilt. The arm guard is made from brass and is decorated with small stamped circles in a scrolling geometric design. The detached copper decoration was originally soldered onto the front of the armlet to mask the join between the two ends and the sheath. The armlet has been soldered onto the sheath on both edges.
