- Flower shaped ceramic bowl with painted design representing the forty-seven rōnin.
- Long description
- Round, flower-shaped ceramic bowl with fluted edges and painted design of the forty-seven rōnin. The interior of the bowl depicts six figures in a square frame, including one on horseback, representing the tale of the forty-seven rōnin or 'masterless samurai'. A second circular frame encloses a painted landscape design with two houses in the foreground. The frames are surrounded with detailed painted patterns, predominantly in gold and red, including flying storks. The exterior of the bowl is white with three brown swirl patterns and a painted black foot with flower patterns. The base bears Japanese characters in red paint, which likely form a maker's mark.
