Model reed boat, or balsa, with a reed sail and two wooden masts. [ZM 31/3/2016]
Long description
Model of a balsa boat of the type used on Lake Titicaca, which borders Bolivia and Peru. The boat is from bundles of dried reeds bound together and secured at regular intervals with twisted plant fibre, with two separate bundles forming the gunwales on each side. The model includes two carved wooden masts attached to each other with twisted plant fibre and a rectangular sail. The sail is made from dried reeds attached together with twisted plant fibre. The model consists of the following detachable parts: the boat [.1], the sail [.2], and two wooden masts [.3]. [ZM 31/3/2016]
