Research and responses

According to “African ethnonyms: index to art-producing peoples of Africa” by Daniel P. Biebuyck, Susan Kelliher and Linda McRae (G.K. Hall & Co.: New York, 1996), the Mandingo are now known as the Manding, and populations can be found in The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal; the River Gambia runs through The Gambia and Senegal, and thus these two countries are suggested as provenances.
