A number of similar eggs are published on Plate XIIIb of Venetia Newall's 'An Egg at Easter'. The caption reads 'Slovak scratch-technique eggs. On these, shallow engraved designs are produced by scraping the surface colour. A notable motif is strawberries, and otherwise flowers, fruit and birds are common. Multi-coloured scratch eggs of this type are unusual'.
