This egg is pictured on Plate XIII of Venetia Newall's 'An Egg at Easter'. The caption describes the egg as 'Moravian, the shells being reddened by boiling with onion peel, or sometimes basil wood...the designs are achieved by attaching to the shells cut-out straw pieces, either dyed or natural in colour.'
