Description
Embroidered panel for a woman's dress.
Long description
The panel is roughly square in shape and is made of several pieces of cotton and wool? textile stitched together. A piece of pale green silk textile has been stitched on top of the pieces of cotton textile and then embroidered in mainly geometric designs. There are two bands on either edge of the panel which are not embroidered onto the green silk; they have been embroidered directly onto two strips of red cotton textile. These strips are embroidered with a repeating leaf pattern. In the center of the panel there are two bands of floral embroidery. On the main body of the panel the embroidery is very dense and completely covers the textile. One of the pieces of base textile appears to be a textile used in a man's suit. The panel has been embroidered with brightly coloured silk yarn. [MdeA 15/12/99]
