- Long description
- One of a pair of carved wooden stirrups. The foot rest is a wide block of wood, hollowed out and open on one side with a curved base. The hanger is sub-rectangular with two cylindrical projections, and a metal panel riveted to the centre. On the front, this metal panel is incised, and has three spikes, each flanked by two semi-circles, cut out to reveal red material behind. The foot rest and the hanger are ornately carved. Attached to the hanger is a metal bar through which a strap is attached. The strap is leather, and is bound with woven plant fibre and ?bird quills, with two rectangular copper ferrules.
