- Long description
- Fan made of hilüa spathe with a length of fabric wrapped around the handle. Used for fanning a fire when cooking or sometimes for fanning the face. The fan has an overall slight curvature, with the concave side of the fan showing the natural texture of the plant spathe. On this side the form of the handle can be seen - the spathe has been cut so that where the fan narrows into the handle the excess below the fan section has been folded in and bound with textile. This folded and bound section provides a slightly rounded and stronger handle. The textile material is of a grubby white in colour and has been wound around the handle six times and finally knotted. The base of the handle has been cut into a point. [LKG 04/09/2009]
