2018.313.395Portrait of Abia Yousef (Jospeh), a Kanuri 'Sultan' or District Chief. He is an administrator for around 50 villages, including Konduga, where he lives. In Konduga he employs scribes and musicians to educate and entertain the villagers. He has a blue beard as a result of rubbing his indigo-dyed robe over his head, and is wearing a red cap and facial scarification typical of the Kanuri.2018.313.395
