This object was examined by Dr Elizabeth Graham as part of the Fell funded project Characterizing the World Archaeology Collections. She noted that this and 1886.1.1089 are "labrets, used as male lip adornments in the Postclassic period in the Maya area and in Central Mexico" [AS 01/09/2010]
