Research and responses

This object was examined by Jonathan King (MAA Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge). The visit took place 28/09/2015. [NC 23/11/2015]

This shoe was studied by Rachel Hopkins, shoe maker, on 24 October 2014. Rachel agreed with the accession record that this shoe is similar to 1886.1.746 but not a pair to it. Rachel said the sole was made of skin and the darker coloured skin is a piece of fur. The four strips on the sole are fur. The hair faced towards the heel - providing grip on snow. The strips are sewn on to the sole with invisible blind stitching. [MJD 24/10/2014]
