- Long description
- Fan with split bamboo handle and circular central section of palm leaf. Painted with red, green and dark blue foliate designs and edged with textile. The handle is roughly cut and the circular fan of palm leaf is attached to one end of the handle . The palm leaf is of a golden yellow in colour, and is characterised by several raised natural folds. These have been decorated with painted motifs. At the point where the folds meet, where the fan is attached to the handle, strips of dark blue have been painted to run parallel with the folds. These strips are followed by dashes in green, which in turn are followed by alternating dark blue and red flower-like designs. Around the outer edge of the palm leaf parallel lines in dark blue have been painted. The palm leaf section has been trimmed with a strip of ?muslin textile, which precedes a wider border of material which is itself edged with parallel lines of silver foil. At the upper side of the handle, where the palm leaf section of the fan is attached, the end part of the material used to trim the palm leaf is evident with a striped pattern of red and blue lines on a cream ground.
