- Long description
- Fan of ?bamboo and palm leaf with textile edging bordered with silver foil. The central section is painted with a design in dark blue, green and red. The handle of the fan is roughly cut from a split length of bamboo cane to which the fan end, fashioned from palm leaf, is attached. Between the folded ridges of the palm leaf at their central point are painted striped of bark blue, approximately 100 mm in length. Radiating out from these and still following the direction of the folds in the palm leaf are three green dashes angled diagonally so that a pattern is formed across the fan. Above the green dashes are painted in alternating colours of red and dark blue, are painted circular foliate designs which are followed by pairs of dark blue horizontal lines. This central section of palm leaf is bordered with a sewn on edging of material approximately 10 mm in width. From this edging a wider border of darker thinner material, approximately 40 mm is sewn. A final edging has been added of silver foil measuring 10 mm in width. [LKG 03/09/2009]
