Description
Polychrome dance-wand with two pyroengraved gourds [SM 27/02/2008]
Long description
Polychrome dance-wand used at a circumcision ceremony in 1984. Consists in three sticks, the ends of two of which have been bent to form two closed circles at the top, the whole wrapped in polychrome cottons. Hanging from the top of each of the two circles are two rattles, consisting in pyroengraved half gourds to which strings of plastic, metal and shell beads have been attached. The donor was High Commissioner in The Gambia from 1981 to 1984. [JC 7 1995]
