Research notes - 'The end of the War saw me returning to Baghdad in August, 1920, as Private Secretary to Sir Percy Cox, the first High Commissioner for Iraq. On the journey out we had halted at Oqair in the Persian Gulf to meet H.H. Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, the Sultan of Najd, in order to discuss matters of high politics. Here we saw the outskirts of the Great Desert from another point of the compass; this was, moreover, its entrance gate.' in Cheesman, Robert Ernest (1926): In unknown Arabia.
