- Description
- Close up view of a door in the king's (Oba's) residence, or palace or 'compound', in Benin City. (Note that the print in the album is rotated one quarter anti-clockwise, due to the inflexible configuration of the album's window openings, and should be viewed with the loose strip of metal seen at the base of the door.) A caption below the print (written by the album's compiler) describes the door as being 'made of wood covered with hammered brass', and of dimensions or size fifteen feet (in height) by eight feet (in width).
