Belt, woven on a body tension loom
Long description
Belt, woven on a body tension loom (illustrations of such belts being woven in Fini 1985:19, Davies & Fini 1994:76). Worn by both men and women Ground of red warp-faced plain weave with bands of two-colour complementary-warp patterning in red, white and green, outlined by narrow warp stripes. Symbols include musok huata kallary (the new month), a hexagonal design representing the six regions of Taquile (Fini 1985:32), birds and horses. The weft is red. At one end are 12 oblique interlaced units, their ends tied together; there is a yarn tie at each end of the belt. Commercial yarn. Synthetic dyes. Warp spin Z2S; weft Z2S; warp count 96 epi (38/cm); weft count 32 ppi (13/cm).
