Description
Flat fixed paper fan with short wooden handle and painted floral motif. [LKG 23/09/2009]
Long description
Flat fixed paper fan with short wooden handle and painted floral motif. Paper has been wrapped around the handle and secured with glue. On this paper two Japanese text symbols have been printed. The top part of the handle is of a pale wood, the bottom half is of a darker wood. There is a perforation to the bottom section of the handle through which a length of white cord has been threaded and knotted. The fan has a curved top edge and straight sides. The edges of the fan have been covered with a narrow strip of paper glued into place, with a design of narrow grey horizontal bands across the width. A length of this edging has come away from the tip right corner of the fan. The design on the fan shows flowers with pale grey and light blue petals with long thin leaves hanging down from the top right corner. At the centre of the fan are two oval shaped blue ?pools. Beneath the top part of the handle, where it covers the fan, a disk of light blue textile has been glued into position. The reverse side of the fan is plain and undecorated. [LKG 23/09/2009] Flat paper fan. The fan is made from a square wooden frame partially covered with peach coloured paper. Painted on the front of the fan are sprays of blue flowers. The fan is edged with a narrow piece of black and white striped paper. A semi circular piece of blue textured paper covers the join between the paper frame and the handle. A piece of paper with Japanese written on it is stuck to the handle. White silk cord is attached to the base of the handle. [TW]
