Long description
Knife, 1997.18.3 .1 with leather and reptile skin sheath, 1997.18.3 .2. The blade of the knife is metal (now rusty) with no decoration or inscription on either side. The blade is curved. The hilt is made of polished dark wood. The pommel is flat. The sheath of the sword is made of leather. Towards the bottom tip of the sheath a strip of reptile skin has been stitched to the sheath. Towards the top part of the sheath a leather strip with a metal buckle has been stitched to he sheath. This strip is a carrying device for the knife. [MdeA] Knife [.1] with two edged blade, curved tip and carved hilt, with leather [.2] with reptile skin chape and leather belt. The knife blade is initially straight but curves backwards and expands approximately 3/5ths along its length. The tip then curves forwards. The hilt is carved and is expanded at both ends. The sheath is similarly shaped to the knife. It is decorated with impressed lines at the mouth and is open on both edges on the upper half, to enable the knife to be removed. A narrow leather belt with a ?copper alloy buckle is stitched onto the back of the sheath with a strip of leather. [SM 18/06/2007]
